Pilaf, un jeune floup, mousse à bord de la Bella-Bartoque, a détaché l'amarre du bateau lequel se trouvaient gaig et quelques-uns de ses compagnons. Gaig, de plus en plus attirée par le mer, découvre, au cours d'un bain nocturne prolongé, qu'elle peut repirer sous l'eau. Alors que le bateau s'éloigne, elle est emportée par le courant des Cocos, jusqu'à la mer des vents morts ou elle se retrouve prisonnière d'une créeture étrange et susceptible du nom de Spongia Magna. Gig comprend qu'elle doit lui échapper. Mais Spongia, qui a pour habitude d'endormir ses victimes avant de les consommer, endort gaig

Pilaf, a young floup, mate aboard the Bella-Bartoque, untied the mooring line from the boat which was Gaig and some of his companions. Gaig, more and more drawn to the sea, discovers, during a prolonged night bath, that she can breathe again underwater. As the boat pulls away, she is swept away by the Cocos Current, to the Sea of Dead Winds where she finds herself trapped in a strange and susceptible creature called Spongia Magna. Gig understands that she must escape him. But Spongia, who usually lulls his victims to sleep before consuming them, puts Gaig to sleep.
